The AI, Data, and Communication MA is one of the few in the UK to combine media and communications with an accessible introduction to computer science. While the students will learn about some of the technical and practical aspects related to AI and data, the focus will be on encouraging them to think critically about how data is used, the ethical issues around AI, and what the big data revolution means for society now and for future generations.
This interdisciplinary MA – which welcomes graduates from a range of backgrounds – will equip them for fascinating job roles at the nexus of AI, data, and communication, with the right expertise and knowledge to talk to data scientists, designers, marketers, policy advisors, and other stakeholders across a variety of disciplines.
The course allows students to examine the impact of AI applications on society globally, using advanced research skills to analyze and debate the subject. They can also choose from optional modules that focus on AI and data from a political, economic, cultural, or international relations perspective. While all students study a core introductory module in data science which includes practical lab sessions, they can also extend their technical knowledge via optional modules that explore technologies and applications such as data mining, data visualization, and machine learning.
Combining hands-on practical learning with theory and analysis, this cross-disciplinary course will give them the critical, analytical,l and creative skills they need to help shape our digital future.
