About the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (BMedScMD)
The Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine course is accredited by the Australian Medical Council. This combined degree (BMedScMD) prepares you for a leadership role as a doctor in health care delivery, enabling you to make a difference in Tasmania and globally by improving health outcomes.
Medicine offers a rewarding career with diverse opportunities, including clinical care, medical research, biomedical technology, public health, medical education, and health policy.
This full-time, on-campus course takes a minimum of five years. In years 1-3, you'll gain foundational knowledge in medical science and clinical skills through short placements. Years 4 and 5 focus on workplace learning with various clinical placements, including electives across Tasmania. Teaching centres include the Medical Science Precinct (Hobart), Hobart Clinical School (Royal Hobart Hospital), Launceston Clinical School (Launceston General Hospital), and Rural Clinical School (North West Regional Hospital, Burnie). Our medical school and graduates embody the University of Tasmania's values, promoting healthy, sustainable communities, with attention to Tasmanian Aboriginal health and rural communities.
