About Foundation Studies Program (Fast Track) - Arts (X0G:1) (0100809) + Bachelor of Fine Arts (13R) (005531K)
Program Description
Foundation Studies Program (Fast Track) - Arts (X0G:1) (0100809):
The Foundation Studies program is a direct academic pathway to first-year undergraduate degree study, or an equivalent. The program acts as a bridging course for international students who wish to study a university undergraduate degree course but who don’t yet meet academic requirements and/or have the English language skills for tertiary study.
To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a 50% pass in all units, including English.
Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses.
Bachelor of Fine Arts (13R):
Tasmania is a place that inspires the maker in students. Nowhere is the entanglement of nature and culture, past and present, creativity and industry more alive. Studying Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania teaches students how to generate their own opportunities through resourcefulness, connections and collaborations, setting students up for a future immersed in creativity and innovation.
Students can explore their practice in Drawing and Printmaking; Object and Furniture; Painting; Photography; or Sculpture and Time-Based Media, advancing their technical skills with individual attention. Studying Critical Practices together with studio-based making, students will contextualise their practice in the art landscape. As the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree unfolds, students move to open and interdisciplinary units allowing them to dream big, experiment and create work with public outcomes.
On the island campus of Tasmania, the line between student and professional practice often dissolves. Students will engage with acclaimed international creatives drawn here on a personal scale through the Artist in Residence and Arts Forum programs. From the beginning of their degree, students will take part in a rich exhibition program across University of Tasmania’s on-site galleries and iconic spaces to develop essential curatorial skills and showcase their work publicly.
Through access to exclusive creative collaborations with Media, Music, and Theatre and Performance students will build close creative networks, test working relationships, and leverage their accomplishments to generate future opportunities. Students can find themselves working with Tasmania’s unique festival scene, creatively solving real client briefs, or soaking up inspiration together on a field trip overseas.
This empowering, hands-on Fine Arts experience gives specialist skills that can be applied in a range of exciting contexts and careers. With the added flexibility to choose units across the University, students can develop complementary skills in design, creative arts and health, music, media, and creative writing or explore history, politics, blue and green sciences, and other subjects to inspire their practice.
