Undergraduate Foundation Program
This programme is designed to prepare international students who have completed senior secondary education for undergraduate study at the University of Southampton. All students who successfully complete the UFP are guaranteed progression to a suitable programme of undergraduate study at the University. The UFP is set at level 3, which is equivalent to A level standard in the UK.
The length of study primarily depends on the English Language level at entry. The 3-term programme lasts one academic year (nine months), divided into three terms of seven to eight teaching weeks and one examination week. If a student’s English Language level is below the requirements for the three-term option, they will take an additional term of English Language study before starting this programme. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week.
Students will be assessed at regular intervals throughout the programme to ensure they are making the progress required to successfully complete the programme. Full assessment of the programme will take place in the final term. Assessment methodologies are aligned with those that will be experienced in the university environment and include project work, essays, presentations, and unseen examinations.
The programme includes English and three academic subject modules. Some academic modules will depend on the chosen progression degree. English will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects, as well as being taught separately if additional support is needed to develop English language skills. Modules are subject to availability, and students will be guided onto the best combination of academic modules for their intended degree upon arrival at OnCampus Southampton.
