The BSc Web Design and Development blends technical and creative skills into one package, teaching students software development and web design skills. In their first year, students will develop programming skills and the ability to work with existing data. Additionally, students will gain a critical understanding of digital media and skills in image editing and developing website prototypes. Throughout the degree, students will continue to hone software development and data analysis skills. Students will also understand what makes a positive, engaging and impactful website or mobile app for users.
After the first year, students can take optional modules based on their career ambitions, such as strategic digital communication, digital gaming, animation and creativity, project management and digital storytelling. Students will also learn core cyber security skills related to organisational resilience.
Between Year 2 and Year 3, students can undertake an industrial placement year, allowing them to gain valuable work experience relevant to their career aspirations.
All computing programmes in an active blended learning style, with most lectures replaced by workshops and seminars. This approach provides a learning environment focused on collaborative working in practical lab spaces, immersed in an environment based on working in the IT industry.
