About Master of Meteorology (MMet) - Meteorology and Climate (with a Year in Oklahoma) (F791)

If students are fascinated by storms and tornadoes, then studying MMet Meteorology and Climate with a year in Oklahoma will be the perfect chance to study severe weather systems up close.

Meteorology is a vital tool for tackling the biggest issues facing the planet today, including ozone depletion and climate change. This course is accredited by the Royal Meteorological Society and leads to a masters-level qualification. It is ideal for someone who is considering a career in climate or meteorological research.

The first two years are identical to the BSc Meteorology and Climate course and will cover all aspects of meteorology and climate, including atmospheric science and oceanography. Teaching is divided between lectures and practical work, but the ratio depends on options selected. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to carry out a range of experiments using Reading's extensive fluid dynamics and instrument labs, and atmospheric observatory.

Students will then spend their third year at the University of Oklahoma. The modules during this part of the course will be geared towards the weather of the US High Plains regions and the methods used to observe and forecast it.

During their final year, students will carry out an independent research project and can choose from an extended range of options at masters level. Many of Reading's excellent teaching staff are world leaders in their fields and a number are Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) authors and Fellows of the Royal Society. Reading also has a Regius Professor of Meteorology and Climate Science.
