About Integrated Master of Engineering - Electrical Engineering (Industrial Year in Year 4) (H62C)
Electrical engineers are responsible for designing and developing new technologies to generate and process power. Student focus on creating equipment that is used to distribute electrical energy, including 'Smart Grid' technologies for renewable energy sources, and that supports various manufacturing industries.
The advancements in electrical engineering technologies have now made it possible for hybrid and electric vehicles, trains, ships, and even aircraft to exist.
The course offered provides students with specialized electrical knowledge and skills that contribute to a more sustainable future. Through lab-based projects and collaborative work in small teams, students learn essential problem-solving and design skills.
During the fourth year of the program, students have the opportunity to gain industry experience. They can apply for placements that are available to students in their course or arrange their own placement with a suitable company. Throughout the industrial year, students remain fully registered with the University and have regular meetings with their tutor.
By combining their numerical, analytical, and technical knowledge, students become confident in creating engineering solutions that meet industry demands.
Initially, all undergraduate students in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering follow a common program of study. However, they have the flexibility to switch to a different plan until the end of their third semester in the second year. Additionally, students can choose to add or remove a year abroad or a year in industry after joining the course. By the third year, students have the opportunity to specialize in the topics that interest them and align with their career goals.
If a student receives an offer at the MEng level, it will also include a contextual offer for the BEng version of the course. This means that if the student does not meet the required results for the MEng offer but would have met the requirements for the BEng version of their chosen course, they will automatically be offered a place on the BEng version.
