About Pre-Engineering - Bachelor of Science - Chemical Engineering

The bachelor's degree program in chemical engineering teaches students to use chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics to solve problems related to the production and manufacture of goods and materials.

In addition to a strong foundation in the sciences, students gain problem-solving and analytical skills through laboratory sections and the ability to collaborate with faculty on research projects. Graduates of this program have the necessary skills to work in industry or government or to pursue graduate training. Students in the bachelor's degree program also have the option to pursue an emphasis in biomedical engineering.

Successful engineering students arrive at the University with a strong background in math and science.  It is recommended that students have taken physics and chemistry in high school and are prepared to take calculus as freshmen.

The bachelor's degree program prepares students to enter chemical engineering positions in industry, government or academia and to excel in those positions. The aim is to develop not just technical expertise but also a commitment to professional enrichment through life-long learning and critical thinking.

All students who are entering into Business, Graphic Design, Engineering, and Journalism are required to begin their studies at the University of Nevada, Reno as a pre-major. Updates and progression to the upper level division and major declaration will happen during program study.
