About Bachelor of Science - Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers two degree programs—a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science—as well as numerous specializations to fit students' interests. They are all designed to increase a learner's analytical and logical thinking, improve their problem-solving skills, preparing them for a career in a wide variety of fields.
The bachelor of arts degree provides a traditional liberal arts experience through a balanced course of study in the arts, humanities, foreign language, social and natural sciences. The bachelor of science degree is an "expanded major," which provides a more intense experience in mathematics, statistics, computing and science.
Regardless of which option students chose, math and stats majors take courses that cover calculus, linear algebra, statistics and analysis, among other topics. Math majors graduate with the ability to use mathematical concepts and models to solve problems.
In addition to a general emphasis, students can specialize in applied mathematics, discrete mathematics/operations research or statistics.
