About Double Degree - Bachelor of Arts - Geography & Bachelor of Business Administration - Marketing (Optional Co-op)
With a combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Management (B.A./B.Mgt.) or a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Management (B.Sc./B.Mgt.) degree, students can explore a multitude of interests and careers. For example, for candidates who are interested in managing an art gallery, they can major in art and general management. For those who are interested in sports marketing, they can major in kinesiology and marketing.
The Combined B.A./B.Mgt. or B.Sc./B.Mgt. degree program takes five years (50 courses) to complete and leads to the conferral of two degrees.
Geography deals with the diverse landscapes around the world. It is about everything from the original formation of the earth’s surface, to the effects people have on their environment: past, present and future.
The primary focus of the program is to give students the skills necessary to analyze the organization and interaction of all creatures and ecological processes on the planet — and sometimes beyond it — to address real-world issues.
The department is particularly strong in the areas of geographical information science (GIS) and remote sensing, water research and rural & urban studies; areas of spectacular growth in research, teaching and employment for graduates.
Students will have access to the latest hardware and software available in geography, economics, environment, agriculture, ecology, planning etc., as well as state-of-the-art facilities like the Alberta Water and Environmental Science Building. This facility provides the infrastructure to support the research interests of the University of Lethbridge's award-winning faculty, students' instructors, as they investigate diverse areas such as: weather and climate, water, glaciers, sediments, plants and insects.
Situated in the Oldman River Valley, the university’s location offers an excellent center for field research, surrounded by farm and rangelands, and in easy reach of the Rockies and the city of Calgary.
Marketing, a combination of art and science, is the core of any business. It helps identify consumer needs, guides the development of new products, services or communications strategies, determines prices, and has the ability to adjust all of these for domestic and international markets. Almost one-third of North Americans are employed in marketing or marketing-related positions.
As a marketer, students will be the crucial link between an organization, their suppliers and their end-users, building relationships that benefit all parties. Students must have a strong understanding of the customer, whether an individual or an organization so they can effectively advise on all aspects of marketing. Students must also be creative and show strong analytical abilities and have excellent communications skills (including listening).
Students will learn to balance project experience with the latest theoretical concepts and study courses like consumer behavior, advertising and promotions, managing responsibly in a global environment, economics, sports marketing, communications and social media, cross-cultural marketing, and statistics. They will also draw from fields such as history, English, political science, economics and sociology.
The marketing major offers optional concentrations in Marketing Communications or Socially Responsible Marketing.
