The Modern Languages BA is unlike any other course of this kind in the UK. This innovative degree hones communication and intercultural competences whilst equipping students with a range of skills across areas such as digital, teaching and communication, ensuring they are career-ready from day one.

Kent offers unparalleled flexibility and personalised language learning paths tailored to individual learning style, strengths, and aspirations. This approach means whether students have studied a language for their GCSEs or A-levels, or if they are studying languages from scratch at Kent – students can expand their skills and achieve fluency. In the first year, students can refine existing language skills or explore one or several new languages in the friendly and informal environment of our Language Lab. With options including Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, and Spanish, students will begin at a level suited to them, making rapid progress and setting their own pace in their studies.

Students will graduate with more than linguistic proficiency. They will leave with a comprehensive cultural, social, and political understanding of the areas where their chosen languages are spoken, and of the relations among them.
