About Standard International Pathway Program (IPP) - 2-Semester Pathway + Bachelor of Science - Elementary Education
Program Description
UHart's bachelor’s degree program in elementary education prepares students for a rewarding teaching career in grades 1-6. In their undergraduate education programs, students will start building your resume from day one. Students will begin meaningful fieldwork experiences in area schools the first semester of your freshman year.
UHart's class sizes are small, and students receive plenty of individual mentoring from experienced faculty, who are very well connected with area schools. With an extensive network of partner schools, students will apply skills learned in the classroom to real-world settings and gain the expertise to excel in their career.
Elementary education students will complete a subject major and may select any discipline offered by the University of Hartford or an interdisciplinary behavioral studies major. Their principal preparation, however, is the professional core comprising two full semesters of integrated professional practicum experience and one full semester of student teaching in public school settings.
Students who successfully complete the elementary education undergraduate program and the specified Praxis II examination(s) are eligible, on recommendation of the University, for Connecticut certification to teach first grade through sixth grade.
Students preparing for certification in elementary education have the option to enroll in our program integrating a special education core, leading to a dual certificate. This would be recommended in order to include special education students in a regular classroom
International Pathway Program
Students should be advised that this is the Standard 2-Semester Pathway option for this program.
The International Pathway Program (IPP) is open to students who need to strengthen their English skills before studying a degree program in the USA. The IPP offers undergraduate students the additional support needed for their first year of university study. Students’ academic, social and personal success are ensured while in the program as they prepare to continue on to their degree.
Each semester students will take a combination of Hartford academic courses (credited) and English courses (non-credit). Course options are dependent upon the required pathway. Once students have reached the required English level, they can progress to their program at the University of Hartford.
