About Standard International Pathway Program (IPP) - 2-Semester Pathway + Bachelor of Arts - Economics

Program Description

The BA in Economics is offered by the College of Arts and Sciences; courses are taught by economists in the College of Arts & Sciences and in the Barney School of Business.

The economics major provides an appropriate foundation for a wide variety of careers.  It is a valuable background for employment in the governmental, non-profit, or business sectors and the Foreign Service.  Economics is a preferred major for those wishing to pursue graduate work in economics, business and public administration, or the law.

The program serves the needs of three groups of students: those who wish to major in economics in the context of a liberal education; those not concentrating in economics but wishing to improve their understanding of the economic aspect of society; and those specializing in related fields, who find coursework in economics contributing to their areas of specialization.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will make use of appropriate data and economic theories to analyze economic questions.
  • Students will effectively communicate economic concepts and ideas orally and in writing.
  • Students will think critically and become skilled in the logic of economics.

International Pathway Program

Students should be advised that this is the Standard 2-Semester Pathway option for this program.

The International Pathway Program (IPP) is open to students who need to strengthen their English skills before studying a degree program in the USA. The IPP offers undergraduate students the additional support needed for their first year of university study. Students’ academic, social and personal success are ensured while in the program as they prepare to continue on to their degree.

Each semester students will take a combination of Hartford academic courses (credited) and English courses (non-credit). Course options are dependent upon the required pathway. Once students have reached the required English level, they can progress to their program at the University of Hartford.
