Printmaking is an extension of drawing; thus, drawing and compositional skills are developed along with those of printmaking. You will learn the basics of the major techniques and must achieve mastery in lithography and etching. Black-and-white and color processes are taught in all media within the program. You are also encouraged to pursue other areas of the printmaking curriculum, such as relief, monotype, letterpress printing, and book arts. Aesthetic understanding is developed through studio projects leading to more self-directed work on the upper levels. Lectures, demonstrations, and workshops with well-known visiting artists and master printers further enhance the curriculum.

A senior exhibition helps prepare students for graduate school or a career in printmaking and the arts, whether as a gallery artist, or in some fine arts printing capacity, teaching, or other professional fields within the greater art community.
International Pathway Program
Students should be advised that this is the Extended Plus 4-Semester Pathway option for this program. This pathway includes one or more semesters of Pre-Sessional English (dependent upon student proficiency level and progression in English courses) plus 3 semesters of Extended International Pathway.
The International Pathway Program (IPP) is open to students who need to strengthen their English skills before studying a degree program in the USA. The IPP offers undergraduate students the additional support needed for their first year of university study. Students’ academic, social and personal success are ensured while in the program as they prepare to continue on to their degree.
Each semester students will take a combination of Hartford academic courses (credited) and English courses (non-credit). Course options are dependent upon the required pathway. Once students have reached the required English level, they can progress to their program at the University of Hartford.
