Program Description

Forensic science is the use of sciences to examine physical evidence in criminal cases. It plays a vital role in the criminal justice system by providing scientifically based information through the analysis of physical evidence. University of Findlay's forensic chemistry major will provide students with an educational, ethical and scientific background needed to pursue laboratory careers as a physical evidence examiner or researcher. The forensic chemistry major was built upon the rigorous accreditation specifications of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. It is designed for students who are pursuing a career working with drugs or unknown substances and who are interested in trace evidence analysis of paint, glass, fibers, hairs, latent prints, or firearms.

Findlay's students thrive because of their experiential learning-based program design. Students will learn hands-on throughout the program and have opportunities to work in the state-of-the-art forensic science lab. Forensic science majors have opportunities to explore other areas of interest within the field, such as latent fingerprints, firearms examination, forensic anthropology and forensic entomology.
