Program Description

Forensic science simply refers to the use of sciences to examine physical evidence in criminal cases. Forensic biology plays a vital role in the criminal justice system by providing scientifically based information through the analysis of biological evidence. University of Findlay's forensic biology major will provide students with an educational, ethical and scientific background needed to pursue laboratory careers as a physical evidence examiner or researcher. The forensic biology major was built upon the rigorous accreditation specifications of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. It is designed for students who enjoy biology and are pursuing a career testing biological material for DNA and other body fluids, such as blood and saliva. Findlay's curriculum provides flexibility and allows students to focus their studies on their interests and career goals.

Findlay's students thrive because of their experiential learning-based program design. Students will learn hands-on throughout the program and have opportunities to work in Findlay's state-of-the-art forensic science lab. Forensic science majors have opportunities to explore other areas of interest within the field, such as latent fingerprints, firearms examination, forensic anthropology and forensic entomology.
