About Doctor of Philosophy - Economics
For the University of Essex PhD Economics program within ISER, they offer supervision in applied microeconomics and microeconometrics, which will pique the interest of those planning to use socio-economic survey data in their research.
Supervision is available in various areas, including the economics of the family, education, migration, labor markets, retirement and pension, health economics, inequality, poverty and income distribution, public policy, and ethnicity. With extensive experience in analyzing cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys, they also welcome researchers interested in panel data, survival analysis, missing data, measurement error, endogeneity, and other estimation issues. Students will be supervised by some of the world’s leading experts in these fields.
Studying at University of Essex can open doors to an academic career, as well as opportunities in government departments, international organizations, and statistical institutions. Several PhD alumni have secured positions at notable institutions, such as the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago, the Social Policy Research Centre at the University of New South Wales, the Department of Economics and Public Finance at the University of Turin, the Department of Economics at the University of Linz, the Centre for Research on Social Dynamics at Bocconi University, the Applied Microeconomics Research Unit at the University of Minho, and the School of Health Administration at Dalhousie University.
Currently, there are three research opportunities available as part of a wide offering of studentships in sociology and economics.
