Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) - Philosophy and Politics with a Placement Year

The Philosophy and Politics degree is designed to allow students to engage equally with both disciplines or to swing the degree slightly more to one or the other subject.

Furthermore, students won’t just study each subject separately; they will also be invited to bring them together. The philosophy experts at UEA are particularly engaged in issues that relate to the future of our planet – and to future generations. Western intellectual and cultural heritage, from the Ancient Greeks to the great works of political thought, literature, cinema and art, are other areas of philosophical focus here too. Then, with UEA's experts in political theory, students will study democracy’s philosophical underpinnings, the clash between different world views, and the philosophical basis of utopian political systems.

By year two students be ready to decide which aspects of Philosophy and Politics they want to pursue further, depending on their interests and talents. Students can take either equal numbers of modules in each subject or weight it a little in one direction or the other. They will take one compulsory keystone module, Philosophy of History and Politics for Second Years, which will invite them to combine the skills, methods and concepts from philosophy and politics.  In the final year students will also have the opportunity to take research-led special subject modules or to write a dissertation on a topic of their own choosing.

On this course, student will normally spend 9-12 months of their third year* in a placement, gaining invaluable work experience and employability skills in a relevant area of their choice. Student will be expected to seek their own work placement, and will be supported in doing so by UEA’s Career Central Service and by the School.
