About Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Biomedical Sciences

In Biomedical Sciences students can combine a range of topics from the field at Levels 1 and 2 before specializing in areas that interest them at Levels 3 and 4. This will include normal and diseased function, as well as ways to prevent and treat disease. With any aspect of life sciences, it’s important to understand key theories of biology, from molecular level right up to full body systems and beyond.

The first two years will cover core concepts including genetics, cell biology, biological organization, molecular mechanisms, and processes. Students will develop practical skills, including laboratory skills, data analysis, and learn how to design and run experiments. This will prepare them for projects later in the course.

Students can pick modules that interest them and graduate with a BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences, or focus on neuroscience, pharmacology, or physiology. The flexibility of Dundee's courses also means students can transfer to a different life sciences degree if they choose the relevant modules.

Dundee's course curriculum is shaped by the work of world-leading researchers to ensure they are learning the latest advances, as well as gaining an understanding of the fundamentals of the field. Lab sessions help bring together students' knowledge and practical skills, as well as develop strong transferable skills, both in and out of the lab.
