UCO’s Bachelor of Science in Psychology is a pre-professional degree that will prepare you for a variety of careers as well as the pursuit of a graduate education in Psychology. Designed as a liberal arts degree, this program aims to provide a transformative approach to ensure you receive a well-rounded education. The curriculum designed by highly experienced faculty, offers a breadth of topics in Psychology and the opportunity to explore specific areas of interest more deeply. Foundational education in scientific research methodology and data analysis sets you on the path to gaining better insight into human behavior, emotions, and mental health.
Why Earn a Degree in Psychology?
An undergraduate degree in psychology can open a variety of career paths in fields such as mental health, social services, research, education, human resources, and more. While some entry-level positions may be available with a bachelor's degree alone, many students choose to pursue further education to qualify for more advanced roles. At the graduate level, the Psychology Department also offers five master’s degree programs and one education specialist degree.
B.S. in Psychology Student Learning Objectives:
Define and describe current psychological terminology and reference related studies.
Identify careers of interest in the field of psychology and match skills, abilities, and interests.
Describe the role of the individual in society and the effects of social interactions on behavior.
Demonstrate effective written communication skills.
Compute descriptive, inferential, parametric and non-parametric statistical techniques for psychological research.
Describe the social, emotional, physical and cognitive aspects of human development throughout the lifespan.
Utilize advanced statistical packages for social sciences to analyze experimental effects.
Describe the brain-behavior relationship.
Describe modern methods of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of major psychological disorders.
Describe the historical framework of systems of psychology by demonstrating effective research and written language skills.
