About Master of Arts - Journalism

The accredited Journalism MA program offers a new and exciting opportunity for students seeking a career in the media industry. It provides practical skills and critical abilities necessary to excel in journalistic practice.

This program is suitable for those with a non-journalism undergraduate degree or those looking to pursue a professional qualification in journalism. The National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) accreditation ensures that graduates are well-equipped to succeed as multimedia journalists.

Students will learn about digital and social media practices, as well as traditional story-gathering methods. They will also develop technical skills in video and audio recording, essential for modern journalists.

The curriculum covers contemporary journalistic issues, including fake news, and provides knowledge on media law and government structures. Taught by industry professionals and academics, students will have the opportunity to publish articles on the student journalism website, overtimeonline.co.uk.

Through the Professional Practice module, students will gain hands-on experience in a newsroom setting through placements with national and local organizations. Field trips and guest lectures from industry professionals will provide valuable insights into the field.
