Bachelor of Arts - English and Creative Writing

Your study of literature will allow you to travel through time and space, encountering the ideas, cultures, and experiences of writers from the medieval period to the present day.

You will read the works of writers from around the globe who have created exquisite art in their poetry, drama, fiction, and non-fiction writing. As you read, you will discover more about yourself, others, and the human condition. Reading literature will change you in unexpected ways.

Studying with the English and Creative Writing department at TWU also offers you the opportunity to develop your own creative writing skills, whether you want to learn how to write non-fiction, short stories, novels, poetry, plays, or songs. All English courses will help you to become a better writer: our professors are passionate about working with you one-on-one to develop your analytical, writing, and editing skills.

When you earn a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in English, you will read the classic writers of literature in English, such as John Milton, William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Nathanial Hawthorne, and Margaret Atwood. You can also choose to experience writers such as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling and L.M. Montgomery in our popular courses on Fantasy Literature and Children's Literature.

In addition to an English major, concentration, or minor, the English and Creative Writing Department offers an Honours program for students of high academic standing who wish to study English and Creative Writing in greater depth. The Honours program also prepares students for pursuing a Master's degree at graduate school.

Graduates from our program have gone on to work as editors, teachers, professors, lawyers, creative writers, broadcasters, journalists, actors, screenwriters, political activists, speech therapists, missionaries, and experts in international relations.
