About Bachelor of Science - Accounting

The accounting major provides the necessary accounting courses to prepare students for the CPA exam and public accounting careers in auditing, tax accounting, cost accounting or managerial accounting. A degree in accounting can also prepare them for a successful career in government, corporations, or as a business owner.

Accounting is a screened major, which means that students are admitted to the accounting major (ACCT) only after successfully completing all admission requirements. Admission to the accounting major is selective. Students are admitted to the major on a competitive basis after first being admitted to the university.

Before applying to the accounting major, students must first declare a “pre-accounting” major and complete the lower-level prerequisites and other requirements. Students are encouraged to meet with their faculty adviser each term to evaluate their progress in completing the requirements for admission to the major.
