About Master of Science by Research - Scandinavian Studies
A Masters by Research (MScR) program is ideal if students have a clear idea of the independent research they wish to undertake at masters level.
One of the very few centers for the study of modern Scandinavian languages in the UK, University of Edinburgh can accommodate a wide range of research interests in the languages, literatures and cultures of Sweden, Norway, Denmark and other parts of the wider Nordic region.
Join the community and choose one of two program pathways: either completing two research assignments and a 15,000-word dissertation; or writing a longer dissertation of 30,000 words.
On each pathway students will be guided by an experienced and well-published supervisor. The research expertise includes:
- 19th and 20th century literature
- Cultural relations and transfer
- Language history and dialectology
- Literary translation
- Onomastics
- Place and identity
- Scottish–Scandinavian historical relations
- Viking studies
