Master of Arts (Honours) - Japanese and Linguistics (TQ21)

Over the past 150 years, Japan has undergone rapid changes, while still preserving its captivating cultural heritage. Students who choose to study with the university will acquire the necessary linguistic and analytical abilities to critically engage with this dynamic society in a truly interdisciplinary manner.

The joint honours programme provides an opportunity to delve into the cultural context of the Japanese language and explore its mechanics. Participants will receive the same Japanese language training as MA (Hons) Japanese students, but will have the chance to focus their studies on the social scientific understanding of language.

The programme has been meticulously crafted with the aim of developing expertise on Japan. Additionally, students will gain insights into Japan's position within East Asia, a region of immense significance and influence globally.

Linguistics, as a field of study, investigates the inner workings of language, elucidating how sounds, words, sentences, and conversations combine to convey and construct meaning.
