About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - History (V100)

The History department at Swansea University offers a comprehensive exploration of medieval, early, and modern history, with a focus on subjects such as women's history, gender studies, modern British society, cultural history, and the history of religion, health, and medicine.

The three-year BA degree course provides students with valuable skills that are highly sought after by employers, leading to a wide range of exciting career opportunities. According to the Destinations of Leavers in Higher Education 2015 report, 94% of History graduates are employed or pursuing further study within six months of graduation.

Located at the picturesque Singleton Park campus overlooking Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsula, Swansea University's History course is highly respected by both students and employers. The department is ranked as a UK Top 15 History Department by the Guardian University Guide 2020 and 11th in the UK for Archaeology by The Times Good University Guide 2020.

In the third year of study, students have the opportunity to choose a 'special subject' module and complete a dissertation on a specific topic. The faculty members are experts in various areas of history, including gender and sexuality, political thought, welfare and conflict, maritime and imperial history, religious history, and science and medicine.

Students can also opt for a semester abroad in locations such as Hong Kong, China, Singapore, or North America. For those who prefer to stay closer to home, Swansea University offers three work placement programs - Week of Work (WOW), Swansea paid Internship Program (SPIN), and Santander Universities Funded Placements - to enhance student experience and career prospects.

Additionally, students can benefit from the Swansea Employability Academy (SEA), which connects students with employers through networking events, talks, workshops, and other resources.
