About Graduate Certificate - Operational Technology Cybersecurity (POTCY)
The program aims to prepare individuals to defend Canada’s most vital sectors. Operations technology (OT) cybersecurity requires specialized skills and knowledge distinct from those used in information technology (IT) cybersecurity. Graduates of Ontario's first college program dedicated specifically to OT cybersecurity will differentiate themselves by possessing the expertise to protect systems and networks used in healthcare, military, government, manufacturing, and other critical sectors.
Students will have the opportunity to apply theory both in the classroom and in real-world settings. Through lectures, discussions, and case studies, they will learn how to integrate cybersecurity with OT, Industrial Control Systems, AI edge devices, smart manufacturing, Industrial Internet of Things, and more. This theoretical knowledge will be reinforced through simulations, laboratories, and group projects. A capstone project and mandatory work-integrated learning experience—such as a co-op work term or workplace simulation—will enable students to gain practical experience and establish industry contacts.
The program offers flexible learning options and multiple pathways to accommodate diverse learning needs and career aspirations. Most courses are available either online or in person, ensuring maximum flexibility and accessibility.
Instruction is provided by a diverse faculty with extensive industry experience, advanced cybersecurity education, and professional certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM). These instructors will teach students how to use a wide range of advanced technologies and tools, including IoT sensors and equipment, data simulations, intrusion detection software such as Snort and Security Onion, vulnerability assessment tools, patch management strategies, AI edge devices, and virtual SCADA systems.
