Advanced College Diploma - Psychiatric Nursing

About Advanced College Diploma - Psychiatric Nursing
Psychiatric nursing is a respected and distinct field of practice in western Canada. As a Saskatchewan Polytechnic psychiatric nursing student, students will be introduced to foundational knowledge and skills to prepare them to be an integral part of the interdisciplinary health care team. Faculty will guide them as they link theory with practice, demonstrating that caring is the foundation that provides a framework for psychiatric nursing. Students will learn the importance of using a holistic approach to help clients reach their maximum potential.
Registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs) form one of the largest single groups of regulated mental health professionals in western Canada. RPNs are key proponents of mental health promotion. Students will learn how to help clients reach their full potential as they cope with mental illness, addictions, developmental, cognitive and physical challenges, as well as other psychiatric disorders.
As a student in the Psychiatric Nursing advanced diploma program, students will collaborate with clients and other health care team members as they learn how to coordinate health care and provide client centered services to individuals, groups, families and communities.
