About College Certificate - Agricultural Equipment Technician

Agricultural Equipment Technicians diagnose, repair, modify, overhaul, service, and maintain some of today’s most technologically advanced machines—tractors, combines, cultivators, seeders, sprayers.

This one year certificate from SaskPolytech (formerly SIAST) will teach students the skills necessary to assemble, repair, service, and maintain all types of agricultural equipment through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on shop time.  Students will spend most of their classroom time in Parkland's trades shop with experienced industry-trained instructors where students will receive an education placing them at the forefront of the technical curve. With small class sizes, students will get hands-on training and a thorough understanding of:

  • air conditioning, heating and electrical
  • engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, power trains
  • gas and arc welding
  • harvest, hay and forage equipment
  • onboard computer and global positioning systems (GPS)
  • seeding, tillage, sprayers, and applicators
  • shop procedures and safety
  • tractor set-up and pre-delivery

This program also includes two-week work experience at an agricultural dealership to build on students' practical skills and knowledge.

Note: This certificate is issued by Saskatchewan Polytechnic, and it is delivered at the Trades & Technology Centre in Yorkton.
