About Bachelor of Arts - Sociology and Cultural Anthropology

The social and cultural anthropology program at Saint Martin's University provides learners with unique opportunities to study contemporary American society and a wide range of cultures in the classroom, in surrounding communities, and in cooperation with campus study abroad programs around the world. The program demonstrates a strong focus on student-centered research.

Whether conducting archival research, taking field trips to museums or local research sites, learning how to interview subjects of research, use participant observational techniques, or study the classics of global ethnography, Saint Martin's students receive well-rounded anthropological training that prepares them for a broad range of jobs or future graduate work.

Social and Cultural Anthropology Program Highlights:
  • Explore core sociology and cultural anthropology concepts/principles and core ethnographic literature, and analyze present and historical social problems.
  • Develop an appreciation for the historical development of anthropology and sociology, and demonstrate an understanding of prominent theories and schools of thought involved in sociological and anthropological research, including both quantitative and qualitative research designs.
  • Design and complete an individually created research project that draws on disciplinary research methods and social theory, and demonstrates both verbally and in writing a satisfactory Senior Thesis that meets professional standards.
