Dual Degree - Bachelor of Arts - Music - Music Production & Master of Arts - Sports Communication and Media (4 + 1)

Students prepared to flourish as a professional musician, educator, producer or audio engineer with a bachelor’s in music from Sacred Heart.

Students will learn from world-class faculty and accomplished professionals and benefit from advanced study, in-depth practice and applied experience in Sacred Heart’s 48-credit major in music. With 36 core credits in music theory, history, and applied music, and a 12-credit concentration in either performance or music production, students will gain the theoretical and technological skills necessary to excel as a music professional, educator or producer.

Sacred Heart music students are encouraged to incorporate creative expression into their wider intellectual and personal development, providing an environment in which students can develop the aesthetic dimension of life by nurturing their abilities to imagine, create and appreciate.

Students apply to the dual degree program as incoming freshmen and are admitted directly into the Sports Communication & Media graduate program at the same time as their admission as undergraduate students. Dual degree students are guaranteed a place in the Master of Arts in Sports Communication & Media (SCM) program provided they continue, as undergraduate students, to meet program-specific criteria to progress into enrollment in the graduate program. Dual degree students, therefore, have a space reserved for them in the graduate program beginning in their first year, with clear criteria and achievements required to progress into the graduate program.

Combined with advice from their undergraduate academic advisor, participation in activities and programs offered by the School of Communication, Media & the Arts and the Sports Communication program provides strong support toward successful progression into graduate study.

Students in the Sports Communication & Media Dual Degree Program earn a Bachelor’s and a Master of Arts in Sports Communication & Media in five years. Students complete the bachelor’s degree in the traditional four-year time frame and complete one year of graduate study in the SCM program, earning both the bachelor’s degree and the master’s degree within five years.
