Diploma of Graphic Design

Students will use industry-standard software and gain in-depth knowledge of the design process to work in areas of visual and graphic design.

• As graphic designers, their daily activities may include:
• Creating logos and artwork for products such as packaging or café menus.
• Focusing on graphics used for websites, digital, and online platforms.
• Creating graphics for clients to promote products or services, which may involve print or digital publications such as newspapers and magazines, or outdoor signage.

This diploma provides a strong technical focus that develops students' expertise in digital design, print production, and typography, along with a thorough understanding of design concept development and the design process.

Students will explore various forms of visual and graphic communication, including illustration, digital design, typography, calligraphy and lettering, packaging design, books, advertising, and publicity material.

They will become competent in industry-standard software, including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Associate Degree in Graphic Design

Graphic designers are visual problem solvers who possess highly specialized technical, creative, and conceptual skills and knowledge in visual communication. They may specialize in various fields, including corporate identity, book and magazine layout, advertising, branding, packaging, web design, wayfinding, and exhibition design.

The Associate Degree in Graphic Design combines communication, design, technology, and business. It provides students with strong skills in finished art and design concept development, as well as in-depth knowledge of the design process. The rigorous research and learning experiences challenge students to develop a deeper level of critical thinking, enabling them to create high-level and innovative design solutions and concepts.

Bachelor of Graphic Design

The Bachelor of Graphic Design offers majors in Typography, Illustration, Branding, and Experience Design, along with minors available both within the design discipline and across the wider university.

In the Typography major, students explore the application of lettering and typography to communicate effectively across various media. This major prepares graduates for careers such as book designer, publication designer for print and digital media, or specialist typographer within branding, placemaking, and wayfinding teams.

The Illustration major focuses on developing creative and strategic visual storytelling skills through both traditional drawing and digital techniques. Graduates are equipped for roles including illustrator, concept artist, visual storyteller, or editorial illustrator.

In the Experience Design major, students learn to create user-centred experiences that enhance how people interact with products, environments, and services. This pathway leads to careers such as UX designer, interaction designer, service designer, or wayfinding and placemaking specialist.

The Branding major offers a focus on the strategic and visual techniques that define and express a brand’s identity. Students gain the skills necessary for roles such as visual identity designer, brand strategist, or creative director, ensuring consistent communication across all brand touchpoints.
