About Grade 7 - Boarding
Program Description
In grade 7, students explore the arts, language, health and physical education, mathematics, science and technology, and social studies.
In Lower School classrooms, teaching students how to learn is just as important as teaching the curriculum. The IB philosophy emphasizes the explicit teaching of these strategies, skills, and attitudes – known as approaches to learning (ATL) – across all of its programmes, included the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The key IB approaches to learning skills are as follows:
- Thinking Skills
- Communication Skills
- Social Skills
- Self-management Skills
- Research Skills
Ridley's IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is offered to students in Grade 7. It provides an intellectually challenging blueprint for learning that encourages students to become creative, critical, and reflective thinkers. As an extension of PYP, the MYP encourages students to connect their studies in traditional subjects with real-world issues. It promotes the development of the skills and qualities that will help to shape the global leaders of tomorrow, such as:
- Communication
- Intercultural and global understanding
- Service
This programme is also appropriate for a wide range of learning styles, and it ensures students have a breadth and depth of understanding through study in eight subject groups. It also features the study of a second language.
