The Department of Mathematics offers degrees tailored to individual student needs. At the undergraduate level, Pittsburg State University offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and three emphasis areas.
A Bachelor of Science prepares students for a career in mathematics or to pursue a graduate degree in mathematics. Within the BS degree, they also offer an optional emphasis in Actuarial Science. The Actuarial Emphasis provides Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) credit and prepares students to sit for the first two actuarial exams.
The Department of Mathematics maintains relationships with their graduates and actuarial employers to foster internship opportunities for students pursuing the actuarial emphasis. The department encourages student research at all levels by providing one-on-one research opportunities with faculty members and providing travel support for students to attend and present research at a variety of mathematics conferences.
The department produces graduates that are well prepared and ready to pursue graduate school or careers in mathematics.
