The Middle Childhood Teacher Education Program prepares students for an Ohio teaching license in middle childhood teaching for grades 4-9.
ODU's Middle Childhood Education program integrates theory, practice and educational technology while the student is introduced into the middle childhood teaching profession.
The program develops reflective, problem-solving, caring teachers who have the knowledge base, the professional competencies and the dispositions to be effective middle childhood professionals.
Studies in Middle Childhood Education include the general education core, a range of professional education courses, and the choice of two concentration areas. Students choose two from:
- Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
In addition, students are provided opportunities to participate in extensive field-based experiences in diversified middle childhood settings prior to student teaching.
The program models teacher preparation guidelines of the Association for Middle Level Education, the Ohio Department of Education, and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
