ODU's Criminology & Criminal Justice program provides comprehensive coverage of the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, courts, corrections, and juvenile justice as well as criminological theory and research methods.
The Criminology & Criminal Justice program provides knowledge of the criminal justice system, the agencies that comprise the system and analysis of contemporary policy concerns. Students develop critical thinking, effective research skills, and awareness of the social, political, historical, ethical, and economic forces that affect criminal justice.
All of this is framed within the larger context of society today and the history of Western civilization. Themes addressed in this broad context include the concept of community, the nature of human nature, punishment vs. rehabilitation, victimology and civil rights.
Criminology & Criminal Justice majors are able to pursue careers in all sectors of the criminal justice system, sometimes after additional graduate study in criminology or public administration.
