About Bachelor of Arts - Gerontology (Combined Major)

Gerontology is the study of issues related to aging and the challenges that older persons encounter. As health care improves and birth rates decline, the proportion of older adults in the Canada and around the world is increasing rapidly. As a student in the Gerontology program, one will learn to recognize aging issues, and understand the dynamics in the health and human service system that must respond to the aging population. Students will also be able to access research and practical resources like The Nova Scotia Centre on Aging.

Class projects and presentations in the Gerontology classes will help students to develop their interpersonal communication, conflict management, and advocacy skills. The assignments students complete will help them to hone their analytical and intellectual skills, and their  leadership skills. The program’s framework is designed to guide students toward a consciousness around social citizenship.
