Program Description
Students can develop prevention, intervention and treatment strategies to facilitate a positive change in children, youth and their families who experience a range of social, emotional and behavioural challenges.
Program Highlights:
- Mohawk College secures diverse field placement opportunities for students in a variety of agencies and provides one-on-one field placement support.
- Over 1,000 hours of practical field placement experiences.
- Mohawk College’s Child and Youth Care Program has earned national accreditation by the Child and Youth Care Educational Accreditation Board of Canada (CYCEAB).
Learning outcomes:
- Specialize in supporting change with children, youth and their families experiencing a range of social, emotional and behavioural challenges.
- Implement a range of prevention, intervention and treatment strategies for children, youth and their families, including crisis intervention, conflict management, problem solving, counselling, activity programming and group work.
- How to work with client challenges including difficult home situations, substance abuse, behavioural problems and conflicts with the law.
- Advocate for the rights of children and youth.
