As a student on this cutting-edge one-year course, joining third-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Filmmaking students prepares for entry into the filmmaking industry as a working professional.

The Filmmaking Top-Up, like Year 3 of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Filmmaking degree, puts professional futures in the spotlight. It encourages the evaluation and assessment of skills and industry engagement to date, aiding in planning an entry into the film sector. As part of this, a portfolio will be created to accurately communicate expertise and specialism(s) within film production.

In tandem with the creation of the portfolio, a major film project will be developed and produced, allowing focus on the area of filmmaking most passionate about. The realization of this project will involve collaboration with fellow students to work on at least one graduation film. Whether in a production or post-production role, it provides evidence of capabilities to make the portfolio stand out in this competitive industry.

The Filmmaking Top-Up course also offers the choice of a specialist module that complements the skills on display in the final project. With options such as directing, screenwriting, lighting, production logistics, and sound recording, dedicated time will be given to practice, experiment, and explore in the specialism before applying what is learned in production and post-production.

Based in Berlin, access to the city’s thriving film and creative industries is available. Through freelance work opportunities, film festivals, and collaboration with students from across the BIMM creative community, an international network will be built to rely on when starting a filmmaking career.
