Bachelor of Science - Computer Science

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science: 

• Provides a solid foundation in software development as well as theoretical and algorithmic foundations.
• Offers elective courses in cutting-edge technologies such as web design and mobile applications development as well as coursework that provides cooperative employment opportunities enabling students to gain experience in computer operations, software development, and practical software projects.
• By complementing technical courses with a solid liberal arts education, a Madonna Computer Science graduate obtains not only the solid technical skills but also the strong interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills that are a necessity in the business world today.
• Alumni of the Computer Science program have successfully pursued graduate degrees and most graduates have found sustainable employment including some who have jobs at highly regarded technology companies such as Google and Microsoft.

The mission of the Computer Science program at Madonna University is to promote intellectual growth by providing students with a sound foundation in both applied and theoretical computer science concepts, preparing them for the constantly changing technologies of the future.

With small class sizes, students interact directly with faculty who teach from real-world computer science experience. They are challenged and stimulated by several courses in software development and web design and have the opportunity to gain work experience through cooperative opportunities. Students are required to meet with their Computer Science faculty advisor multiple times a year to ensure they are on track for graduation.

Computer science is a broad discipline that deals with the analysis, design and synthesis of computer systems and their applications. Computer scientists develop the programs that run computers, from the small ones in your pocket to the large ones on space shuttles and Mars rovers.

A wide array of areas utilize computer scientists among them the entertainment industry, engineering, government, medicine, manufacturing, science, space exploration, education and communication. From its theoretical and algorithmic foundations to cutting-edge developments in robotics, computer vision, intelligent systems, bioinformatics and other exciting areas, a comprehensive foundation in computer science allows graduates to adapt to new technologies and new ideas. Computer scientists solve complex problems in order to make the world a better place.

Currently, there is a huge demand for Computer Science graduates. Several recent reports support this including U.S. News Best 100 jobs where 4 of the top 20 jobs are Computer Science related. According to the Wall Street Journal, new undergraduate Computer Science graduates have one of the highest starting salaries of any profession not requiring graduate study.
