Academic Accelerator - Bachelor of Science - Finance

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program for international students with good English-language skills. It supplements immersive classes taught in English with just the right amount of support. As a student in the Academic Accelerator, they will receive the right amount of support for their academic and English-speaking needs, a full year’s worth of college credits, access to courses exclusively for international students, English-language help with words they need to know for their classes, and a mix of classes with international and U.S. students.

The study of finance involves how individuals, businesses, and organizations acquire and utilize capital (i.e. money) and deploy it efficiently to create value. Two basic elements of finance include the tradeoff between expected returns and risk and the importance of timing of future cash flows.

Louisiana State University’s Department of Finance offers a Bachelor of Science in Finance. The program curriculum is designed to allow students, at the time of graduation, to obtain a broad functional knowledge of basic theory and practice of finance, access and analyze financial statements to evaluate the financial health of the firm and the strategies it employs to create value for its shareholders, develop and apply financial modeling skills for the valuation of the firm and of individual capital assets, securities, and other investment vehicles, apply principles of asset allocation and diversification to formulate portfolio strategies through experiential learning, understand and apply various measures to evaluate portfolio performance, and demonstrate effective skills in written and oral communication, and in teamwork. There are many opportunities for majors in Finance in areas such as Business Finance, Investments, Financial Markets and Institutions, Real Estate, Risk and Insurance. Graduates with a BS in Finance will develop their professional careers in the field of Investment Banking, Asset Managers, Energy Companies, Consulting Companies, Banks/Financial Institutions, Private Equity Companies, State Retirement Systems, Wealth Management Firms, Real Estate Investment Trusts, Property Managers, Developers, Appraisers.
