The 2-Semester Pathway - Undergraduate Foundation Programme - Engineering and Physical Sciences is a one-year programme offers successful students guaranteed progression to Loughborough University. This programme is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to undergraduate studies at the university.

The International Foundation Programme is set at level 3, which is equivalent to A-level standard in the United Kingdom. The two semester programme lasts one academic year [nine months]. Each semester includes, on average, 13 teaching weeks, one reading week and one assessment week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week. This programme includes English and three academic subject modules. English will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects, as well as being taught separately if they need additional support to develop their English language. They will be assessed at regular intervals throughout the programme to ensure they are making the progress required to successfully complete the programme. Full assessment of the programme will take place in the final semester. Assessment methodologies are aligned to those that will be experienced in the University environment, and include project work, essays, and presentations.

As a discipline, Physics delves much deeper and seeks to uncover the laws of nature. Physicists use their understanding of these laws to answer the biggest, most profound questions, and to develop new materials, new technologies and, indeed, new tools to further the understanding - from telescopes able to observe the far reaches of space to microscopes capable of viewing the world at the atomic-level. In structuring the Master of Physics (Honours) - Physics course, the faculty have been motivated by and taken advantage of Loughborough University’s research strengths in quantum physics, condensed matter, statistical physics and the physics of materials. The course allows students to tailor the degree to their career aspirations, whether that would be to pursue a career in industrial research or to study a Philosophy of Doctorate.
