Criminology is the study of crime, its causes and effects, and what people do about it. At Liverpool Hope University, students will study how crime is defined and who defines it, why some people commit offences, and what happens to those who commit crimes if they are caught.
Criminology also studies the impact of the various agencies and organizations that deal with crime: the police, the courts, the probation and prison services, as well as the role of the Ministry of Justice and the Home Office.
Criminology is a well-established degree at Liverpool Hope University and is taught by staff with considerable experience at national and international level. Several key criminological textbooks are written by members of the School. The Criminology team is enthusiastic and dedicated and will help students to get the most out of their degree.
Liverpool Hope University strive to enable their students through teaching of Psychology to grow into constructive citizens who are curious about people, and motivated to make a positive difference to the lives of others. Beyond classroom learning, there are opportunities to enrich the students' chosen program of study in a way that will help them in developing their psychological thinking. They include going on a placement year, working as a research assistant in a laboratory, travelling to another country as part of Global Hope, or studying abroad.
