Creative Writing at Liverpool Hope University will give students the chance to experience the joys of crafting the written word. The degree focuses on developing them as a writer of poetry and prose (fiction and creative non-fiction), across the broad field of literature (poems, short stories, novels, reflective and critical essays). Professional writing - reviews, blogs and articles for different kinds of media - is also studied. The university's focus on creativity and employability means students will be able to produce engaging, innovative and marketable texts.
By studying Creative Writing, students will be empowered with an enhanced command of their craft, increased confidence in expressing their thoughts and emotions, an understanding of the values that inform their writing practice, and the technical skillset to deliver their work to various audiences. Students' writing will be enhanced by studying under leading published writers and academics, and they will develop a range of workplace skills to prepare for fulfilling careers.
Students can explore performance in the heart of the city of Liverpool. They can learn about the origins of drama and develop their skills in making new work.
Liverpool Hope University’s creative community is internationally renowned and world-leading in drama research and practice. Students will develop their acting skills, their ability to facilitate drama sessions, as well as improving their critical writing skills. The university makes use of the many theatre venues in Liverpool, from the traditional Everyman/Playhouse to the experimental Tate Liverpool as well as their own Capstone Theatre, several well-equipped studio theatre spaces dedicated for student use, and their very own Hope Theatre Company – of which students could play a part.
