4-Term Pathway - International Foundation Year in Social Sciences and Humanities - Continue to Bachelor of Laws - Law (Placement Year)

This program will prepare students for entry to Year 1 of an undergraduate degree in a wide range of subjects, including many based at the £10m LICA building. Popular subjects include law, film studies, sociology, linguistics and politics.

Unravel technical legal topics and uncover how law shapes society. Studying the LLB Law, students will learn from law experts and study modules designed with their future career in mind.

Giving Students a Head Start

Preparing students for success is top priority. To help students create connections and gain valuable insight, they will be invited to alumni visits, as well as a Law Fair attended by top lawyers and their recruitment teams.

The student-run Law Society will help students build their network too. Take part in a range of activities including mooting, career dinners and negotiation competitions (judged by barristers and members of the judiciary).

Practical Experience is Key

Perhaps students will take part in the Law Clinic which offers free legal advice to the local community on a range of areas including family law, consumer disputes, and wills and probate. Or maybe they’ll join the Street Law project and deliver interactive sessions in schools on topics like cyberbullying.

With the Study Abroad course, students can extend their degree to four years and spend their third year at one of the partner universities in the US, Europe, Canada or Australia. Closer to home, they’ll find volunteering opportunities with organisations like the Citizens Advice Bureau or Lancashire Constabulary's Special Constables.

Lancaster offers a wide range of diverse opportunities and try to ensure that all students can access the opportunities that interest them, however please note that places are limited on some schemes and modules.
