3-Term Pathway - International Foundation Year in Social Sciences and Humanities - Continue to Bachelor of Arts - Geography and Economics

This program will prepare students for entry to Year 1 of an undergraduate degree in a wide range of subjects, including many based at the £10m LICA building. Popular subjects include law, film studies, sociology, linguistics and politics.

Studying a combined degree in Economics and Geography at Lancaster gives students the opportunity to benefit from expert teaching in both subjects. Students will be taught jointly by staff in the Lancaster University Management School, which is consistently among the UK’s top ten and our Geography Department, which is part of the award-winning Lancaster Environment Centre.

In Economics students will learn about the production and distribution of wealth and the consumption of goods and services. They’ll also cover many contemporary world issues. In Geography they’ll study the impact of these issues in terms of geopolitics, sustainable development, environmental conservation and globalisation.

Students will begin their degree following modules including the Principles of Economics as well as Society and Space - Human Geography. In the second year, they’ll study subjects such as Intermediate Microeconomics; Geographies of Political Economy, and Environment and Society.

In the final year they will undertake an extended essay, guided by their academic supervisor. This essay offers a chance to investigate a topic of their choice related to both aspects of their joint degree. While completing the essay, students will use the essential research, analytical and academic writing skills they have learnt throughout their degree.
