About 3-Term Pathway - International Foundation Year in Social Sciences and Humanities - Continue to Bachelor of Arts - Film Studies
This program will prepare students for entry to Year 1 of an undergraduate degree in a wide range of subjects, including many based at the £10m LICA building. Popular subjects include law, film studies, sociology, linguistics and politics.
From studying silent cinema or exploring the James Bond franchise to delving into modern day Asian British films, this degree helps students explore cinema’s cultural and political importance while perfecting their film making skills.
Putting Theory into Practice
Students will study cinema history and analyse the significance of films in society. They will benefit from the varied programme as they learn about the Hollywood industry alongside world cinema or explore the development of film and comic books.
At the same time, students will be developing their practical skills in the film production modules by experimenting with narrative films or documentaries. They can also get involved with the student film journal, Cut/To, which includes video essays and spotlight interviews.
First-class Resources
Lancaster provides top-of-the-line production equipment so students can create their own original content. They will be able to make use of cinema-ready digital cameras with prime lenses, DSLR cameras, versatile set lighting, grip equipment and the full Adobe Creative Cloud in the acoustic editing suites.
Students will benefit from a partnership with the British Film Institute by attending joint master classes and visiting their film archive. In addition, trips are sometimes organised to places like Media City in Salford, Greater Manchester. Students can also get involved with the active film production society or student-run Cut/To film journal.
