About 3-Term Pathway - International Foundation Year in Social Sciences and Humanities - Continue to Bachelor of Arts - English Language and Literature
This program will prepare students for entry to Year 1 of an undergraduate degree in a wide range of subjects, including many based at the £10m LICA building. Popular subjects include law, film studies, sociology, linguistics and politics.
Sociology is all about exploring the big issues in today’s world. Why do gender inequalities still exist? How does what one consume affect their sense of identity? What will the sociological impact of the cost-of-living crisis be?
Equipping Students for the Real World
The social problems that governments and organisations have to tackle don’t come packaged in neat subject boxes. So, Lancaster doesn't believe students should study like that either. Instead, students will be encouraged to explore several disciplines so that they’re able to see situations from different angles and grasp the bigger picture.
Students experience on placement will further build their skillsets, providing them with practical experience working within an organisation and enhancing their employability. Alongside building their knowledge, students will be helped to develop the critical skills needed to carry out independent research. Skills which will equip students for any area of life.
A Vibrant Culture and Community
Focus on personal and professional development in this Experiencing Sociology Programme. Students could take part in a social activity such as a trip to Manchester or a quiz. On the skills side, it could involve how to work towards a first-class degree or make the most of careers support.
Beyond this though, Lancaster is all about building an open and supportive culture. They will let students have their say in developing or revising modules to reflect their interests. Plus, the friendly student ambassadors are on hand to help if students have any questions.
Placement Year
Sometimes known as a year in industry, the placement year will take place between the second and final year of study and this will extend the degree to four years.
