2-Term Pathway - Pre-Master's in Social Sciences and Law - Continue to Master of Arts - Social Research

This program will prepare students for entry to a postgraduate degree in a wide range of subjects at Lancaster University, including law, design and a world top 10 linguistics program (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023).

The MA Social Research is a fantastic stepping-stone for students thinking of going on to do a PhD or further research. Or they may already be in employment and want to top up their research skills to make them more effective in their role.

Flexible and forward-thinking

The programme is made up of four core modules, two optional modules and a dissertation. Students will have the flexibility to tailor thier research by choosing one of five specialist pathways:

• Sociology
• Gender Studies
• Media and Cultural Studies
• Environment. Culture and Society
• Science, Technology, Innovation and Social Practices

Exploring new approaches

Lancaster tutors regularly publish influential research on key issues such as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on families and changes in citizenship. But they’re well known for how they engage with the public too.

Inspired by their enthusiasm, students develop their own passion and make a valued contribution to research culture. They'll also have the opportunity to work with real data and learn to defend your findings. All good practice for the outside world.
