This program will prepare students for entry to a postgraduate degree in a wide range of subjects at Lancaster University, including law, design and a world top 10 linguistics program (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023).

Issues around immigration. Shifting power dynamics. Conflict across countries. Addressing these challenges starts with looking at relationships between nations. A critical lens

The relationship between academia and the real world is central to this course. Many experts at Lancaster have been policymakers so they’ll teach students what it takes to translate theory into practice. The teaching is interdisciplinary too, which means students will hear from experts in religion, philosophy, diplomacy and more – subjects that intersect with international relations.

Students will be helped to explore the latest trends in international relations in areas like queer studies and post-colonialism, as well as discussing how environmental issues are impacting on policymaking.

Outstanding research skills

From quantitative studies to fieldwork, students will discover what it takes to use a range of research methods to advance their knowledge in this area. Combined with their understanding of theory, concepts and practice, students analytical skills will be valuable to employers in a range of areas.

If students want to add more experience to their CV, they can try applying to the internship programme for the chance to do exactly that. By working with an organisation in this sector, students will see firsthand how new policies are created and get lots of practice writing them too. Perhaps this experience will shape their dissertation which can be on any area of international relations.
